Although most of the American Housing Rescue and Foreclosure Prevention Act of 20081 is devoted to programs to stabilize the U.S. housing sector, one division, the Housing Assistance Tax Act of 2008,2 contains several significant changes in tax law.3 Most of the changes are not effective until 2009 which provides an opportunity to do some planning in 2008.
