Weather, and especially rainfall, is the most important factor affecting crop yields in Iowa. The moisture used by crops comes from two sources- crop season rainfall and soil reserves. Here's how we stand for 1963.
The degree to which plant diseases may develop in 1963 and the amount of losses that may result will depend on several factors. These include the weather, growth stage of plants and presence or absence of disease causes.
Hybrid seed corn supplies appear adequate, but seed of most forage crops for planting in 1963 may be in short supply. Both the new and older crop varieties listed here are backed by years of testing and research.
The livestock disease situation points to increased concern about animal health and disease control. Here are some of the reasons. One of the problems may be to find and be able to supply the answers quickly enough.
