Farm people for generations have used winter's freezing temperatures to help store their butchered beef and pork. More recently, sub-zero storage has been used the year round-in freezer lockers.
Iowa farmers have changed oat varieties twice since 1941. Our chart illustrates the change- the rise and the decline of Boone, Tama and other Victoria strains, then the sharp swing to Clinton since 1945.
Most farm boys know the fun of trapping and the money it brings in. Some adults, too, make trapping a seasonal part of their year's work. All told- the harvest of furs along our streams, marshes, and drainage ditches is a valuable one.
Farm incomes in the year ahead aren't likely to change much over last year. Some farms will make more money; some just about the same. It looks as if we'll have continued high production on farms, with strong demand for farm products.
