What's Happening to Our Food Consumer?

Though consumers' incomes have been increasing, a smaller percentage of their incomes is being spent for food. Consumer spendable income rose more than 80 percent during 194 7-58; spending for food and related services rose roughly 50 percent while farm receipts for food rose only 10 percent. Why?
