Where has veterinary medicine come from and where are we going? Veterinary Medicine has come from a mechanical profession to a science based art. As we have increased the scientific base, the consuming public and legislators have become more aware of methods for assuring continued competency. To keep pace with the rapidly expanding amount of new knowledge, all professionals have been faced with continuous education.
A 5-month-old female Collie dog was examined for intermittent gagging and labored respiration of 7 days duration. Physical examination showed good general body condition. Ausculation of the thorax revealed loud heart sounds on the right side and weak heart sounds on the left side. Lung sounds were normal on the right side but on the left side normal lung sounds were absent and intestinal sounds were heard.
A brief report on the testing of Bacillus anthracis cultures which had been sealed in 1928.
A 10 month old female mixed breed dog was presented to the ISU Veterinary Clinic for an ovariohysterectomy. A patent ductus arteriosus was diagnosed and surgically corrected. Aortic pressures and angiocardiographic studies were also performed.
A twelve-year-old castrated male domestic cat was presented with a history of gradual abdominal enlargement over a period of 4 months. The cat's appetite was good but the owners had noticed an increase in water intake and frequency of urination in the last few months.
