The more elite of the Sophomore Dendrology class stood in front of Central one beautiful morning in October. The day was Saturday, the hour, 6:50 a.m. Stag shirts predominated in the gathering.
The telegram said, “Report to New York ready for woods work in Canada.” The boss was an uncommunicative man at best. Where I would finally go, for how long, and for what kind of work was not easily determined even after I reached New York. When I found that two of us were to go about 1,000 miles north and east of New York City, near the Gulf of St. Lawrence, for an indefinite period, I knew that I was going to have some new experiences.
The three outstanding events of the club last spring quarter were 'the Foresters’' Banquet; the Veishea Parade and Open-House; and the Spring Campfire.
