Knowledge of a monthly seasonal trend is important. But most cattle feeders sell cattle on a particular day rather than in a particular month. Weekly seasonal averages provide more precise information needed for the best job.

Unless we take time to "check up" once in awhile, we find our leases failing to do the job intended- loading to dissatisfactions, disagreements and terminations. This article points up some of the problems that need attention.

Applying fertilizer in the fall is relatively new in Iowa. Many farmers like the idea of getting it out of the way before their busy spring season. Truck spreading and custom applications of liquid nitrogren materials are easier in the fall than in the wetter spring. Fertilizer movement in the fall gives more efficient fertilizer production and distribution. And fall application is encouraged in some areas by lower prices of fall delivery.

It looks as though feed costs in the year ahead will average as high as in 1954. More feed will be needed, too; probably enough to reduce the carryover in corn next fall. Thus, though corn has been going into storage during the past several years, some of it may come out in 1955.
