Experiments with more than 2,000 pigs farrowed at Iowa State College show that corn silage- properly supplemented- makes an excellent and low-cost base ration for sows during pre-gestation and gestation.
More than money income itself is involved in answering this question. Many Iowa farm families- through choice or circumstances- are giving it a try. Income comparisons alone look favorable. But there are other factors, too.
Industrial production barely held its own during the first quarter of 1957. We're now in the summer lull, partially because of vacations. But industrial output is expected to pick up again this fall as the new automobile models come off the assembly line and as orders for Christmas business come in. A pattern seems to be developing of steady business in the early part of the year, with the upturn coming in the last half of the year.
Farm sizes in Iowa are increasing in other dimensions as well as in acreage, through farm size is often thought of in terms of acres alone.
