Abstract
How do people define and interpret androgynous fashion through personal styling in the 21st century? This is what I explored in my creative component. For this project, I incorporated multiple components related to styling and androgyny to help my future career. First, I ground my work by examining fashioning-styling-dressing and gender, intersectionality, and androgynous aesthetics. Then, I explored a practical styling angle by analyzing ten styling jobs I could apply for following graduation. Then, I conducted an oral history of one working stylist, Byshawn Davis, to gain deeper insight into styling.
Following the styling analysis portion of my creative component, I created, led, and produced my own styled shoot. I began by exploring three theoretical frameworks, which informed my work. Then, I introduce the models, followed by my mood boards. Then, I explore all these concepts and approaches in streetwear, denim, and formalwear. Last, I conclude with my critical reflections on the process.
