Abstract
This project will explore Brüning's chancellorship, his economic goals and the methods he used to pursue them, as we'll as the political matrix into which they fit. First to be discussed will be the economic and political background of the Weimar Republic, so as to better understand the circumstances of Brüning's appointment. Second will be a description of Brüning's economic policies and their effects, followed by an examination of the political elements that helped lead to Brüning's demise. Very little of the essay will focus on the National Socialists and their leader, Adolf Hitler, since a great deal has already been written on that topic.
