Abstract

This thesis investigates the controllability of three layer sandwich beams. The damped Mead-Markus beam is shown to be exactly null controllable to a one dimensional state in arbitrary time using the moment method. The undamped Rao-Nakra beam is shown to exactly controllable using the multiplier method. A parallel is drawn between the two methods and two open problems are suggested.
