Abstract
The problem question this research addresses is, "How do nontraditional students at a community college make connections to the college?" These connections include associations with students, staff, faculty, and the campus itself. "What is it like to be a nontraditional student, and how do nontraditional students make connections to a community college campus?" will be used as the guiding question under study.
Listening to the voices of nontraditional students, hearing views, and gaining perspectives may have implications for campus change. Opinions act as catalysts for program modifications and/ or adjustments to current programs. These program adjustments may enhance retention efforts for nontraditional students. Understanding the views of nontraditional students will allow the leadership on campus to gain firsthand knowledge regarding the unique needs of nontraditional students. Having those needs met may mean a more peaceful transition into the college setting for nontraditional students. A smooth transition is possible with a feeling and sense of belonging. This sense of belonging is reinforced when connections are made on the college campus.
