Abstract
This thesis is the written component of the Master of Fine Arts describing the body of art created and exhibited as Metamorphosis of Hope: A Ceramic Journey through Imagination and Wonder. This exhibition took place April 17-26, 2024 at Gallery 181, in the College of Design at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with the power of imagination. From cartoons and characters to fantasy movies and flowers, I have always been drawn to the things that ignite curiosity and creativity. Metamorphosis of Hope: A Ceramic Journey through Imagination and Wonder explores the relationship between the wonders of ceramic exploration and the curiosities of the imagination. In my works, I use ceramics, mixed media, installations, and sculptures to create a realm of my imagination, inviting the viewer to stroll through my creative mind’s garden. My artwork is a recollection of my past, a celebration of my present, and a projection of my future. It is also a tribute to Italy, where I discovered a new world and perspective. Italy sparked my imagination and challenged my perspective. I felt like Alice in Wonderland, entering a new, ancient world full of mysteries and wonders. My journey is a metamorphosis of my ideas, artworks, thoughts, and experiences that have broadened my perspective of the world. Over the years, I have noticed that wit connects people, strengthens relationships, and highlights the positives in life. Sharing this with viewers connects us as a larger community, which is my goal. Within this document, I offer a look into the evolution of my artworks, my creative process, and the underlying themes, inspirations, and influences that have fueled my thinking along the way.
