dc.description.abstract <p>The transport of oxygen from the atmosphere to the soil as a function of soil depth and time has been analyzed theoretically. Laboratory experiments were conducted to collect data on relative oxygen concentrations as a function of tillage, time, and soil depth by using two undisturbed soil columns. Data collected from these experiments were used to verify mathematical models describing the nonsteady state diffusion of oxygen into the soil. The results of this study showed that the values of relative oxygen concentrations predicted by the mathematical model compared well with the experimental data.</p>
