Evaluation of corn grain yield and stalk diameter as influenced by the interaction between seeding rate, genetics, and potassium fertilization

Abstract

This study was designed to identify how potassium applications, seeding rate, and different corn hybrid genetics impact grain yield and stalk diameter in a single growing season. Eight different corn hybrids were were planted within two different seeding rate blocks. Then, two different potassium fertilizer treatments were applied to each hybrid by seeding rate block. This trial was conducted across nine research locations in southeast Iowa in the summer of 2019. Grain yield and stalk diameter measurements were collected on these treatments. We found that hybrid and potassium fertilization can significantly impact grain yield. Also, we found that hybrid, potassium fertilization, and seeding rate can all significantly impact the stalk diameter of corn. However, the interactions between each of these treatments did not always significantly impact each of these measurements.
