Abstract

On November 13, 1997, Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine's Mike McIntyre was given the National American Star Farmer Award by the Future Farmers of America (FFA). The FFA is an organization that promotes farming and agribusiness among young people. Every year one person is selected from the almost 500,000 members and is given this award. To be considered for the award, FFA members must submit a twenty-two page application to their state FFA representative detailing their farming venture, including balance sheets, inventory of equipment, payroll expenses, and detailed tracking of how all moneys earned from the business were used.
