Abstract
In recent years, more and more Whites support integration. But there is still a long way to go. The 1992 Los Angeles riot was an example showing the negative aspects of racial relations in the U.S. The problems relevant to racial and ethnic inequality should be listed on the agenda of social scientists' research. This study concerning the attitude of predominately White students toward African Americans and Chinese people may contribute to our understanding of racial and ethnic problems. The first purpose of this study is to examine the factors that account for the variation existing in social distance that predominately White students wish to keep from African Americans and Chinese people. The second purpose is to determine whether there is a difference between the attitudes of college students toward African Americans and that toward Chinese people.
