Abstract
Although learners of English as a foreign language in Russia are provided with instruction on IPA symbols at the early stages, these learners appear to be struggling with using the IPA symbols afterwards. Consequently, the learners are unable to use transcriptions of English words often found in teaching materials such as textbooks and dictionaries. This makes it more challenging both to study English pronunciation and to learn new vocabulary, as English spelling is not always reflective of the way words are pronounced. In response to this issue, this project offers a user-friendly web-based module, comprising a series of exercises, that enables learners to review IPA symbols autonomously after their initial instruction in the classroom has been completed.
