Abstract

Finding new ways to keep people interested in learning has always been a challenge. The augmented reality sandbox has the potential to keep the spirit of learning alive! By using an IR sensor, a projector and a sandbox, learning takes on a new shape. The sensors read movement and depth of sand in a 3' x 4' sandbox and a project lays a color out on top to indicate depth. The technology also has the ability to simulate rainfall where the "rain" actually looks and functions like water. Using this to help students of all ages and grades learn more about the water cycle, topography and hydrolog
