Abstract
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) and Becker Muscular Dystrophy (BMD) are neuromuscular diseases that are differentiated by the presence and functionality of the protein dystrophin. With a global prevalence of 3.6 per 100,000 people, America has the highest prevalence of 5.1 per 100,000 people. Both DMD and BMD patients may present similar symptoms through their diagnosis, yet differ amongst their onset. While no cure is currently available, it is critical to immediately improve the quality of life for patients. Exercise has been known to provide improvements in quality of life, and supplements have also been shown to improve quality of life. A review of exercises and supplements may reveal standardized recommendations to positively impact the quality of life in DMD and BMD.
