Abstract
Based upon the recommendations made by Olson in his study of the osteoceramic bone guide implant, an in vitro study was performed on bulk, sintered commercial calcium phosphates for a resorbable bone guide implant. A sodium acetate buffer system was used to test the dissolution behavior of sintered calcium phosphate disks. The study investigated the variables of composition, buffer pH, firing temperature, time and their effect on the mechanism of dissolution, mass loss and loss of strength. This study will serve as a guide for the selection of materials for a bioresorbable implant.
