Abstract
This project discusses the importance of soil management being taught to high school students. Without proper soil management, soils on farms will continue to degrade with over use and improper management. This will decrease the productivity of the farm, and also impact the cost and availability of food. Students will learn topics such as an introduction to soils, soil erosion, no-till and conventional tillage with regards to soil biology. The class also discusses fertilizer, pesticide & herbicide application, increasing biodiversity on the farm and finally a unit in availability of resources to help farmers. The literature suggests that by teaching these topics in an agriculture education class, the productivity of a farm will increase over time as newer generations take over. This project acknowledges this deficiency in agriculture, and seeks to reduce the impact of improper soil management on farms by teaching the future generation of farmers.
