dc.description.abstract Iowa State University has a student-run campus cable television station available for students to gain the practical experience so important to their futures. STV9 allows students the opportunity to play nearly any role within the station structure including performance, production, design, advertising, marketing, business or management. Despite the wide range of opportunities available at STV9, few students are actually participating. It appears many Iowa State journalism students, even those whose career paths would be enriched by television experience, are simply not aware of the opportunities it offers. This study examines the knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of Iowa State journalism students in relation to STV9, using diffusion theory. Diffusion theory looks at how an idea or innovation moves through a society. It's useful for this study because diffusion theory helps create a timeline that can show where students are in the adoption process.
