Abstract

IT HAS often been said that we do much talking about the weather but so far no one has seen fit to do much about it. The same thing is true of sustained yield forestry, selective logging, and timber management. Only recently has there been any large-scale sustained yield forestry practiced in the woods. But this fact is not surprising when we consider that this type of management is radically different from the old system of liquidation and that there is often very little known about the costs and returns that may be expected from this changed practice.
