Abstract

Adoption of new innovations are key to the growth of agriculture. In the rural district of Kamuli, Uganda a pedal-powered grain cleaner has been introduced. This grain cleaner improves upon traditional grain cleaning techniques and is fabricated in-country making it a feasible improvement to the post-harvest operations of smallholder farmers in the region. Grain cleaning is a key post-harvest function that allows farmers to begin storage with a high grain quality that allows them to store grain longer and sell the grain at a higher price. As part of the introduction, workshops will be held creating an environment for learners to understand the importance of grain cleaning and how to operate the pedal powered grain cleaner. The training manual presented will be utilized as the foundation for these workshops.
