Abstract
As time passes, the world is plagued with more complex problems, often referred to as wicked problems. As wicked problems are always unique issues, innovation is necessary for solutions. Innovation is also becoming popular in the business sector, as CEOs want more innovation for growth. With the large need for innovation from both global sites and working sections, universities are starting to incorporate innovation into students' education. While the importance grows, it is important to understand the spark that can start innovation. In contrast, innovation is a general term known by many. However, the method of innovation slighter differs from the Design and engineering field. Design innovation focuses on feasibility, while engineering uses more design methods to be innovative. With the use of design thinking, it has allowed engineering innovation to grow more user-centered focus. This cross-over knowledge is a shared idea of interdisciplinary research. A method of research that is a known method to help create innovation. With the growing need for innovation at the university level, Design thinking and, more importantly, the interdisciplinary method is required to create innovation.
