dc.description.abstract
The written portion of my MFA thesis explains my purpose as visual artist. It also serves to document the artistic process of my art series entitled, Amalgamations. The term amalgamation refers to unification or merging. My creative component utilizes the collage method. I focused on combining digital imagery, painting and computer generated fabrics. Traditional painting canvas served as the ground to hold the corresponding artistic media. This resulted in mixed media artworks. Conceptually, the art's underlying theme is tolerance/intolerance. A conscious decision was made to select digital imagery that suggested dichotomies, differences and conflicts. Rather than solely emphasizing opposition and diversity, positive elements were employed to imply resolution and compromise. This was inferred with use of the color gray and computer generated patterned fabric.
