dc.description.abstract
Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats, or CRISPR, is a relatively new gene-editing technology that has the possibility of making a large impact to plant breeding. This paper will introduce how the CRIPSR system works, and will give a few examples of how the technology is currently being used in plant breeding. It will also look at the current regulatory systems and how that might affect the use of CRISPR technology in our food system. Finally, this paper will look at consumer acceptance of GMOs; how GMOs have been perceived in the past, and what learnings we can take as we advance CRISPR into new plant biotechnologies.
