Abstract
Electrical companies all over the world are experiencing a large amount of energy loss in transformers and motors because of inefficiencies caused by the core. It is estimated that in U.S. alone $3 billion per annum is being wasted in the form core losses. Hence there arises a great need to reduce these losses in the materials which are being used in transformer and motor cores. To reduce the losses in the commonly used core materials, silicon steels and amorphous alloys, laser-scribing technique has been implemented effectively. Results obtained proved that laser scribing the material with suitable parameters can achieve considerable reduction in the core losses. A mathematical model, which explains the core loss reduction phenomena, has been described.
