Abstract

It costs the state of Iowa something like $600,000 a year to feed 7 or 8 kinds of insects affecting the potato plant. In other words, 10% of the crop is sacrificed to insect enemies; a conservative estimate. This is a rather expensive board bill.

In 1910 a study of the common insects affecting the potato plant was taken up by the entomological section of this experiment station, and this work was carried on, along with other investigations, for the next 4 years. The results of the work are set forth in this bulletin.
