Abstract
In recent years, the youth climate movement has grown. Young people today are speaking out more than ever regarding the dangers and hardships they will face as our planet deteriorates under the strain of anthropogenic climate change. ARC is a novel about young people forced into adult roles: children being asked to work as professional actors, supporting themselves and their families while simultaneously doing the difficult work of growing up; a youth climate activist, weathering storms, both literal and figurative, using her voice to remind the world that the planet’s future is in jeopardy because of the inaction of adults; and teenagers trying to navigate the online world as social media creeps ever closer to dictating their lives. And amidst all of it, a play that has captured their voices and imaginations. ARC is a novel about the hardships burdening youth when adults forget we are tasked with protecting them.
