Abstract
This thesis investigates the feasibility of using virtual reality environments for the display of nondestructive evaluation (NDE) data in a manner that assists rapid assimilation of information. The potential of these enormously powerful tools for displaying data is demonstrated using a specific application that involves the inspection of natural gas pipelines. This thesis focuses attention on the issues of defect characterization, optimization of MFL signals identification and signal visualization using VR techniques.
