dc.description.abstract <p>It is not always easy to be a forgiving person. However, for those who are more mindful, this task may not be as daunting. Mindfulness, the purposeful focusing of one’s awareness to the present moment and the feelings, thoughts and sensations that come along with that, is a newly re-popularized therapeutic technique. Current research is now looking into how mindfulness affects people’s cognition, emotions, and behavior. The purpose of this study was to see if there is a relationship between forgiveness and mindfulness. A total of 584 undergrad students participated in an online study that had both the Heartland Forgiveness Scale and the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale as measures. We found that there was a significant moderate correlation between forgiveness and mindfulness (r = .22, p >.001). This suggests that those who are more mindful are more likely to forgive themselves, others and their situation.
