Abstract
This creative component project report explains the rationale, theoretical background, methods, procedures, findings, and significance of the Carrots and Culture Project. The Carrot and Culture project aimed to produce public education materials about carrots and carrot breeding, associated cultures, and the history of carrots for the Carrot Improvement for Organic Agriculture project. The Carrot and Culture project was made up of six educational videos which explain the history of carrot domestication, archaeobotanical record, and cultural aspects of this vegetable. The Carrot and Culture project provided a significant opportunity to advance our understanding of how user-generated content platforms like TikTok can be used to educate about agricultural and anthropological topics. This project made major contributions to agricultural and anthropological education by showing the effectiveness of educational outreach using cutting edge and unstudied methodologies. Using an innovative medium within Agricultural education is important since it can be difficult for agriculturalists to access educational opportunities. Additionally, agricultural education is not readily available to many urban populations, this project shows how technology can be used to reach a broader audience. While this project is specific to the agricultural education and anthropology fields, the technique could be expanded to a myriad of other fields.
