Abstract
The problem definition was to develop a system to automate the positioning of a sensor and data collection with regard to air velocities and temperatures during an experiment so that the experiment can go on unmanned for days together. It was also desired that the whole process of positioning the sensor and data collection could be monitored and controlled from the campus which is about five miles away from the experiment site. The idea was to buy cost effective and technically suitable hardware and develop the automation software for local control, develop communication software for modem/modem data transfer, and PC to workstation communication over Transport Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). The project also envisaged the development of a Graphical User Interface on PC and Workstation.
