Abstract
Recent environmental awareness has led to the emergence of advanced coal combustion/conversion technologies with regards to the impact of SO2 emissions, which has led to the development of several advanced processes for SO2 removal. These processes include fluidized bed combustion, limestone furnace injection, calcium based spray drying, sorbent duct injection, and advanced coal cleaning. AFBC wastes were characterized and utilization tests were studied to determine the utilization potential of AFBC wastes.Overall, the AFBC fly ash, spent-bed material and calcium spray dryer by-product performed well in the utilization tests studied. The utilization potential of these products is considerable and may be seem as a positive attribute to the combustion technologies used.
