Abstract
Experiential Rural Trails is a design idea booklet for Iowa’s rural communities to enhance users’ health and provide ecological benefits through creation of unique community trail networks. The concepts here suggest ways to increase the natural heritage of trails, provide places for people to get physical activity, and create wonder-filled, trail-network destinations. Viewing trails from the human experience vantage point, the booklet offers principles to be applied to prairie, wetland, woodland, waterway and roadway landscapes through which a trail network may travel.
