dc.description.abstract This study explores the English language needs of Russian-speaking dental professionals and students, highlighting the importance of English proficiency in the globalized field of dentistry. With the rise of international collaboration and the predominance of English in scientific discourse, Russian-speaking dentists face challenges in their language-learning journey. To address these challenges, the study conducted a needs analysis (NA) using a mixed-methods approach, including questionnaires and semi-structured interviews of Russian-speaking dentists and students in dentistry. The findings reveal perceived gaps in English communication skills, specifically in professional settings, a lack of vocabulary, and difficulties in conducting medical appointments and understanding specialized literature. The study also identifies a demand for an English for Medical Purposes (EMP) course, particularly beneficial for those considering emigration or international professional engagement. The data was used to inform the development of an EMP course syllabus, aiming to enhance communication, technical vocabulary, reading comprehension, and culturally nuanced interaction skills. This course aims to increase the participants’ capacity to engage with the global dental community, fostering professional growth and ensuring effective cross-cultural communication in healthcare.
