This disease has been recognized in European countries for many years. As early as 1880 a vaccine had been prepared there by Pasteur and used with fair results. In recent times it is widespread over the continent, constituting the greatest hazard to swine raising in the areas of dense swine population. In the northern countries and England it has, as yet, proven of less practical importance.
