Abstract
The main focus of this study is to examine the relations between China and South Korea from the 1950s to the early 1990s and to identify the main factors of changes in policy toward each other. Further, I will investigate the economic relations of the two countries. This thesis will show that these theories of international political economy not only had practical consequences on domestic economic development but also served as the rationale for the changing trade relations between China and South Korea. Additionally, the pragmatic nature of the current relations will be examined to highlight the decreasing role of ideology and the increasing saliency of pragmatism as the driving force behind the changing international order in Northeast Asia.
