Abstract
This thesis presents a new phenomenological approach for addressing eddy current NDE inverse problems. The method uses a finite element model which is updated using an iterative procedure until the measured and model predicted signals match. The novelty of the method lies in the fact that the coordinates of the nodes that define the defect are adjusted as part of the iterative procedure instead of updating the material properties. Consequently it is not necessary to deal with terms relating to the derivative of the field with respect to material parameters at the discontinuities. Preliminary results obtained to date show that the method has promise.
