Abstract
In this thesis, I describe my design and implementation of MPSPlayer—a MPEG-1 System Player capable of decoding and presenting multiple audio and video media on the common computer. One of the major design criteria was to be independent of any particular brand or type of computer. To satisfy this criteria, a common resource capable of decoding and presenting MPEG information is used. The only available resource capable of doing this on the ordinary computer
is the Central Processing Unit (CPU). Consequently, MPSPlayer is a software-only design of a MPEG-1 System Player.
