Abstract
For cosmetic reasons or health benefits, braces and other orthodontic treatments have been used for centuries. Within different time periods, different resources and techniques have been used to achieve the same goal, which is to straighten the teeth and to improve the appearance of the patient. Information on the anatomy of the tooth, how it settles into the gingiva and jawbone, and how to correctly move the tooth into the desired location without root erosion is used today to help advance the practice. Braces nowadays come in many different forms depending on the case of the patient and the patient’s confidence in their appearance with them. With the advancement of technology and the growing popularity of braces, researchers are looking for ways the practice can keep advancing and accelerating the process of correcting crowded teeth. This review will go over the anatomy of the tooth, how the tooth is repositioned, how braces work and the different types of braces that are used today.
