Abstract

In today’s society more and more people are feeling the effects of working longer hours and suffering the effects of added stress from living in congested urban environments. The goal of this Virtual Reality simulation is to help the user experience a tranquil setting to ease anxiety and aid in relaxation — the viewer transports to a world containing beautiful imagery, soft music, and sounds of nature without ever leaving their current physical location. This project was created and designed using Unity, XCode, and Google SDK for Google Cardboard on IOS and coded in C#. The user can decide between three various nature scenes and relaxation sounds by interacting with a clickable interface that appears in the 3D landscape that is selectable using Google Cardboard’s gaze control feature. The prototype has demonstrated that it is possible to use this type of experience and apply it for many uses to aid in the wellbeing and overall mental health of people who are unable to derive the benefits from physically being in nature and are feeling anxiety and stress.
