dc.description.abstract A direct synthesis of trimellitic anhydride (TMA) and hemimellitic anhydride (HMA) has been reported in which all the carbons of TMA and HMA are derived from malic acid. Acetoxy succinic anhydride represents a convenient in situ equivalent of maleic anhydride.
