Abstract
This qualitative case study explores the concept of constructivism as it relates to early literacy development and technology. Two first grade students were observed at the computer as they worked together to develop reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in a constructivist environment. Thick description was used to portray the interactions between the students and the environment. This description includes examples of students' experiences with literacy, technology, collaboration, problem solving, and peer negotiations. The results of the case study suggest that technology enriched constructivist environments can be created that facilitate student learning. This study also generates questions for further studies.
