Abstract
ABSTRACT
Historically it was commonplace to have employees with extensive seed production and other related agricultural experiences staffing seed production sites in rural North America. However due to the continued decline in both rural population and the number of farms, agricultural companies are being challenged by shortages of labor in combination with a lack of agricultural experiences and changing ethnicities within their employee bases. Due to these changes in the employee base, companies are making it a priority to review, update, and improve safety training to keep employees safe on the job. Therefore, the purpose of this project was to investigate, analyze, identify improvements, and implement a new and improved safety training curriculum for a NA Seed Company. This project successfully implemented both short- and long-term actions to improve the overall safety curriculum for the NA production sites. Since the implementation of the project, the safety metrics for this company have improved for its new and ethnically diverse employee base.
