Abstract
Finite element models were developed to investigate deformation induced martensitic transformation in cold spray. In this thesis, a Lagrangian model and a Eulerian model were developed to investigate martensitic transformation in cold spray. The Lagrangian model developed experienced high mesh distortion which reduce the reliability of the model. The Eulerian model developed has significantly reduced mesh distortion. Jetting is observed at velocities 800m/s, 900m/s, and 1000m/s. The models show deformation induced martensitic transformation is observed in all velocities ranging from 350m/s to 1000m/s. Mechanical stress and strain is needed for martensitic transformation to occur at 25˚C and above for AISI304 and AISI316 respectively.
