First international ring trial of ELISAs for Salmonella-antibody detection in swine
An international ring trial for Salmonella-ELISAs for swine serology was organized. Twelve laboratories participated and used "in-house" ELISAs or commercially available kits. In total 47 well-defined sera from various sources, including inoculation studies with Salmonella-strains from serogroups B, C 1, C2, D, and E I, were tested blindfold. The specificity of most ELISAs was satisfactory, but relatively large differences were found between the sensitivities of the tests. It is concluded that international reference samples should be made available to guarantee a minimum level of sensitivity.
