Abstract
Georgia, I have seen is an ekphrastic examination of the artistic works of Georgia O’Keeffe, as well as a conversation with the ghosts of O’Keeffe and the elderly mentor of the speaker, Cris Hassold. The project is place-specific, rooted in New Mexico’s landscape, a shared obsession between the speaker and O’Keeffe. The poems offer visual analysis, direct address, and biographical research in order to understand O’Keeffe and her art. The poems are sparse on the page, utilizing caesuras in order to great graphic impact for the reader. The images are direct, mirroring the abstraction found in O’Keeffe’s work. The project contains one short introduction and 56 poems.
